Ending Violence Against Children Workshop with Dr. Breeda McGrath

Wednesday, August 18th, 2021     10am-11am

Violence against children is a broad concept and shocking reality, despite the tendency in most adults to believe that they do not support or participate in it. Children are the most vulnerable members of our society and research shows that those who experience violence are at high risk for a wide range of health and social problems. The magnitude of the issue is devastating – over half of all children aged 2-17 years have experienced emotional, physical, or sexual violence in the past year; nearly one in three adolescent girls aged 15 to 19 have been the victims of emotional, physical and/or sexual violence in relationships; homicide is among the top five causes of death in adolescent boys.

The roots of violence against childhood can be found across a number of contexts (individual, family, community, country). In addition, a number of factors impact and sustain the problem, including social tolerance, cultural norms, gender norms, economic, educational, and political risk factors. International efforts to tackle violence in childhood and make the issue a priority include a collaboration between the WHO, CDC, UNICEF, USAID, UNODC, and others. This webinar will discuss the issue from a global perspective and describe some of the sustainable solutions that are in implementation. Participants will plan their own action steps to join the movement.

Great day and blessings,

I was reviewing all eligible for CEUs for this workshop. I am very much interested in attending! With that being said, I was wondering if I, being a RN and Certified Habilitation, Respite, and Family Support Training Provider for Department of Mental Health and Addiction could also get CEUs upon completion of workshop? I work directly with at risk youth and their guardians in the roles previously stated. In order to maintain my DMHA certifications I am required to maintain 10 hours of CEUs yearly.

Hello Shana! Please forgive my delay in response; you absolutely may also get CEUs upon workshop completion. The accrediting body will provide the very easy steps during tomorrow's workshop.

I appreciate your question, participation, and patience!
