Engaging people with complex health and social needs in advocacy (and beyond!)

Insights from people with lived experience of complex health and social needs are critical in creating better systems of care. Now more than ever, people are using their lived experiences as the impetus to become advocates for change in their communities. Advocacy can mean many things, but we define "consumer advocacy" as any activity where people with lived experience work to shape policies and practices on an organizational, local, state, and national level.

This webinar, led by two National Consumer Scholars with extensive experience acting as consumer advocates, will: discuss different ways people with lived experience can be involved in advocacy work, share examples of previous advocacy campaigns they took part in, and offer considerations for how organizations can partner with people with lived experience in their work — from advocacy to program design to evaluation and beyond!

Presenters:

  • Rebecca Esparza, MBA, 2019-2020 National Consumer Scholar
  • Miguel Rodriguez, Camden Coalition Community Advisory Committee, 2019-2020 National Consumer Scholar
