This workshop will examine the role of trauma-informed care and how personal and professional practices affect the helping relationship in clinical and social work. Good ethical practice requires the clinician to evaluate the effect of trauma on self to develop supports, set appropriate boundaries, and establish personal self-care practices. Learning will help counselors examine areas of strength and vulnerability in providing treatment that is self-aware, competent, and ethically based. In addition, participants will gain knowledge of how a trauma-informed environment supports and enhances an agency's and clinician's ability to forward ethical practices. The workshop uses experiential exercises designed to stimulate self-reflection, and uses small-group processes to explore and evaluate topics.
