Trauma is a public health issue that negatively impacts individuals and their families across the lifespan and can occur in any environment and ensnare single or multiple victims. Culture is a major factor that informs how individuals and their families experience, respond to, and recover from traumatic events. Policy governs and influences funding and the provision of direct services, including accessibility for those who are survivors of violence, abuse, natural disasters, severe illness or injury, and traumatic loss of loved ones. In order to address these concerns, collaborative efforts focused on raising awareness of the importance of culture, the development of trauma informed public and organizational policies, and the use of trauma informed and evidence supported treatment interventions are needed.
The 5th Biennial Trauma Conference is an opportunity for professionals working in direct service, public policy, management, advocacy, and community support programs with trauma survivors to expand their knowledge-base and/ or enhance their clinical repertoires that incorporate the latest research and current trends in the field of trauma. Workshops will offer culturally relevant discussion and strategies, policy implications, practical tools, and/or information and resources on contemporary trauma topics.
Keynote Speaker: Thema Bryant-Davis, Ph.D.
Psychologist, poet, dancer, and minister who’s been featured on BET, PBS, C-SPAN as well as in the Boston Globe, Essence Magazine and BET Weekend Magazine. Dr. Bryant-Davis is an Associate Professor at Pepperdine University and the author of the critically acclaimed book, Thriving in the Wake of Trauma: A Multicultural Guide.
Featured Speaker: Judith Sloan
Actress, writer, oral historian, radio producer, and co-founder of the non-profit EarSay. Ms. Sloan is a member of the faculty at Gallatin School at NYU. She will present YO MISS!

CONTINUING EDUCATION:
This program meets the criteria for up to 8 CE credits on day one and 7 CE credits on day two. Continuing education credits will be provided for psychologists, social workers, and licensed professional counselors. Certificates of Attendance will also be available.
