Engaging parents in trauma treatment is difficult. No show rates are often high. Both parents and children enter treatment defensive and resistant to change. Treatment should begin with the first phone call. But unfortunately, this call is only used to set up the initial intake appointment or provide reminder calls.

In sharp contrast, the Motivational Phone Call Technique is a manualized 15 to 20 minute, 7-question script that uses strength-based questions to quickly build rapport between the therapist and client before the first session. Using this technique, parents and children will experience what is called a “soft start-up” and enter trauma treatment with higher show rates and greater readiness to change. Join Scott Sells, PhD, from the Family Trauma Institute, in this cutting-edge webinar as he teaches participants the techniques of “stick and move” and “closing statements” to enhance the MI telephone call.

In this webinar you will learn about:

• The MI Phone Call Technique to their clients through a manualized seven-question script.

• The differences between what is termed a soft start-up vs. a harsh start-up.

• Understand how and why traumatized parents and children who suffer symptoms of PTSD are especially vulnerable to burn out, mistrust, and defensiveness.

• Prochaska's Readiness of Change of Theory.

NOTE: At Dr. Sells request, attendees must use the telephone call-in number for audio. There will be no computer audio available.
