Youth suicide attempts are on the rise and now affecting children at even younger ages. In 2015, 17.7% of students reported that they seriously considered attempting suicide according to the CDC.  Another study publish in the Journal of Abnormal Psychology found that “among young people, rates of suicidal thoughts, plans and attempts all increased significantly, and in some cases more than doubled, between 2008 and 2017.”

The prevention of youth suicide in schools has been addressed in many ways since the field began in the 1980s. One model that has stood the test of time is the approach taken by Hazelden Lifelines, which looks at the school from the perspective of a competent community where all members play a role in the prevention process. A common denominator in all components of the Lifelines model is that everyone in the school – from administrators, faculty and staff to parents and students – share the same perspective and language about suicide and clearly understand their identified roles.

 This webinar will explain:

  • the language about suicide
  • the school-based definition of suicide
  • the roles that enable a school to develop a comprehensive and best-practice suicide prevention strategy.

Join renown suicide prevention expert, Maureen Underwood, LCSW, as she discusses this timely and very important topic.
