The fourth of a nine-part webinar series designed for persons interested in addiction, its impact on families and children, and in solutions available to provide help to concerned family members and friends.
Topic: How Trauma-Informed Schools Can Help Children's Trauma and Family Recovery -► This one-hour webinar will discuss what constitutes a trauma-informed school. The definition of which, is as varied as the number of schools and school districts in the United States. In order to create and sustain trauma-informed schools, we need to adopt multidisciplinary, multi-prolonged and multi-level approaches. No one professional discipline or peer helpers, on their own, can be expected to "fix" or reconfigure an entire system. This presentation will identify some key components and processes that comprise a trauma-informed school. It will also review some of the literature that has illuminated the development of trauma-informed schools, and how working with traumatized children, particularly those living with domestic violence and substance abuse, can affect the adults who provide care. Strategies and programs presented are also applicable and useful for faith communities, and educational recreational programs for children and faith communities impacted by trauma in their families.
This new Webinar series is brought to you by the National Association for Children of Alcoholics (NACoA), with Co-Sponsorship from the American Association for Pastoral Counselors (AAPC), the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE), the Entertainment Industries Council (EIC), and with support from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
