Peer support is a non-therapeutic relationship in which people who share a common experience come together to offer each other encouragement and hope based on having "been there." The perspective of people with lived experience is essential to understanding the impact of trauma, and what supports and challenges healing and recovery. The purpose of this workshop is to increase understanding and utilization of peer support services in trauma-informed cultures of care. Participants will receive practical information and direction about training and utilization of peer providers. Participants will also have the opportunity to dialogue with agencies that have integrated peer support models, and recovery support specialists (title for peers working in mental health and community settings in CT) to learn what is taking place in CT through state and local partnerships to bring peers into the service delivery system.
