Dear Colleagues:

We look forward to welcoming new and familiar faces to beautiful Portsmouth, New Hampshire for our 2016 conference on family violence and youth victimization research.

Our research-focused conferences offer a unique opportunity for researchers and scientist/practitioners from a broad array of disciplines to come together for the purpose of sharing, integrating and critiquing accumulated science on violence.

Our conference is also known for offering many opportunities to interact formally and informally with colleagues.  We believe strongly that it matters not only what information is presented but also how it is presented.  Our conference is a unique gathering of scholars and professionals who all have a shared passion for better understanding and ameliorating the burden of violence.  We offer many different forums and opportunities for interaction in an environment that facilitates exchanging ideas and networking.

The meeting is usually attended by a wide range of professionals and graduate students from psychology, sociology, psychiatry, social work, nursing, women's studies, law, criminology, criminal justice, anthropology, medicine, public health, and child development. Although many sessions focus on methodological issues (usually of more interest to researchers), there is also cutting-edge research on all aspects of family violence and child victimization. We are especially interested in encouraging students to attend and present. In recent years, approximately 1/3 of our attendees have been from outside the United States.  It is an excellent opportunity to meet and learn from people working on a wide-range of violence-related topics in a wide range of settings.

As before, there will be several types of presentations.

• Pre conference workshops. These half to full day workshops offer the chance to explore more in-depth key issues in the field
• Research presentations. Our invited program offers the opportunity to hear outstanding researchers present new findings or synthesize existing knowledge. The largest amount of time in the schedule is devoted to research paper presentations of approximately 20 minutes each. We will also accept proposals for panels or symposia comprised of 3- 6 papers focused on one theme.
• Poster session and data blitz. We offer a poster format, which can include a "data blitz" (3 minutes for 3 slides before the poster session to help generate interest in your poster and provide a chance for students or other novice presenters to give an oral presentation in a brief format). 
• Innovative short formats. We also offer a new short format, a 20X20 (20 slides shown for 20 seconds each) that is a good format for commentary and more personal reflections on one's work and next questions for the field. 
• Post-conference meeting on resilience.

When and where is the 2016 conference?
The 2016 conference is July 10-12 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. We are also including an add-on day that will focus on resilience on Wednesday, July 13, 2016. Portsmouth is a picturesque seaport is located an hour north of Boston, Massachusetts, and close to New Hampshire's White Mountains. Many excellent restaurants, quaint shops, and interesting historical landmarks are within easy walking distance. There's something for everyone in your family to enjoy. Plan to begin or end your summer vacation here in New England.

Who organizes these conferences?

These conferences are sponsored by the Family Research Laboratory and Crimes against Children Research Center at the University of New Hampshire. They are part of an ongoing series of conferences on all aspects of family violence and child victimization dating back to 1981.

How do I submit a paper?
When you have a submission ready, you can submit it through this website. We will accept submissions starting in November of 2015 and through March 11, 2016. We have moved up the opening of the submission window in order to accommodate people who need to submit early in order to arrange travel funds or visas.
