Intro to Trauma-Informed Education!
This class is a quick way to refresh or learn the basics and start on your trauma-informed journey.
This 15-hour course will:
Examine trauma and its possible effects, and provide participants with ways to intervene harmful effects;
Introduce how toxic stress can impact a child’s education;
Explore the key principles of a trauma-informed approach and how they apply in an educational setting;
Provide participants with concrete tools to:
Help students regulate their emotions;
Interrupt the “school-to-prison pipeline” through which students with disabilities and students of color experience disproportionate discipline;
De-escalate situations when necessary; and
Help students build resilience.

Class Starts on February 12, 2022
Intro to Trauma-Informed Education is a 4-week, 15-hour course. New York City DOE teachers may earn 1 A+ credit for this course.
The course will be delivered remotely on-line, through Google Classroom.
The course will be delivered asynchronously. Participants will work at their own time and pace, with instructor facilitation, and assignments due each week.
In addition to weekly assignments, forum discussion is encouraged.
All graded assignments and discussion sessions will be evaluated using a rubric. Detailed feedback will be provided no later than one week after the assignment is due. Participants may modify and resubmit written work within one week of receiving feedback. Participants who obtain an average of 80%, or a total of 40 points, will be eligible for A+ credits or be issued a certificate of successful completion.
