Mental Health for Iowa Learners [Des Moines, Iowa]

Save the Date for an upcoming event hosted by Iowa Department on Education on meeting the mental health needs of Iowa learners. The event will be held April 22 and 23 in Des Moines. 

 

Wednesday April 22, 2015
This workshop will be presented by Sara Daniel, MSW, LCSW who is the Director of Quality
Improvement for St. Aemilian-Lakeside, Inc. (Saint A). Saint A is leading the way in providing care to
children and families throughout the state of Wisconsin. Since 1997, Sara has been collaborating with
school districts to provide consultation and training in working with students affected by trauma, mental
health issues, or behavioral challenges. A framework for creating a school culture of emotional safety as
well as specific school-appropriate interventions will be provided.

Anxiety is the most frequent mental health concern of school-age youth. L. Read Sulik, MD is a Child
Psychiatrist and transformational health care leader committed to the design and delivery of
innovations needed to improve health for individuals, families, and communities. Dr. Sulik consults with
hospitals, health systems, and diverse agencies on children’s mental health care delivery models. In this
workshop, he will focus on anxiety and depression in children and teens and strategies to effectively
work with these concerns in a school environment.
