DETAILS: The effects of violence and trauma on the adolescent brain will be the focus of the two-day summit. Participants can collaborate with local and national experts from the legal, child welfare, medical, mental health and law-making communities and learn about the Department of Health and Hospital’s new Behavioral Health Integration Plan. Keynote speakers include Judy Cameron, professor of psychiatry and neuroscience at the University of Pittsburgh, on “The Adolescent Brain: How Science Can Help Us Produce Better Outcomes for At-Risk Youth Who Are Transitioning to Adulthood”; Stephen Phillippi Jr., of LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, on “State of the State: At Risk Youth in Louisiana”; Benjamin Saunders, of the Medical University of South Carolina and associate director of the National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center, on “Long Term Impact and Epidemiology of Trauma, Violence and Maltreatment on Children and Adolescents and Effective Treatment Options”; and Lindsay Usry, coordinator of Early Childhood Comprehensive Systems at Tulane University, on “Adverse Childhood Experiences and Building Self-Healing Communities.”
