"Perspectives on Poverty" online video panel discussion (CA focused)

Perspectives on Poverty: Panel Discussion via Google Hangout, September 28

Last week, the US Census Bureau released new state-level poverty data, which showed that more than 6 million Californians, including 2 million children, were living below the federal poverty line in 2014. As discussed in the Budget Center's initial analysis, these new poverty figures underscore that California needs to do more to ensure that the state's economic gains are broadly shared.

Next Monday, September 28, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., the Budget Center will host an online panel discussion of what the latest Census data say about poverty in California and what can be done to address economic insecurity in our state. Presented via Google Hangout on Air, Perspectives on Poverty will be a discussion of the impact of economic hardship in California, from both the state and local perspective, and how policy change and other approaches could substantially reduce poverty and help more individuals and families advance. Panelists include:

  • Alissa Anderson, Senior Policy Analyst, California Budget & Policy Center
  • Jessica Bartholow, Legislative Advocate, Western Center on Law & Poverty
  • JosÉ Padilla, Executive Director, California Rural Legal Assistance
  • Jon Zerolnick, Research Director, Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy (LAANE)
  • Moderator: Steven Bliss, Director, Strategic Communications, California Budget & Policy Center

Join us on Monday the 28th at 2:00 p.m. for an in-depth discussion, including time for Q&A, regarding specific ways that we can foster economic security and ensure that all Californians share in our state's economic future. No registration, RSVP, or Google+ account is needed; you can obtain the link for the Google Hangout on this event page.
