An estimated 13—27% of women have experienced some sort of sexual assault or trauma, and additional women report trauma during childbirth. Information about trauma triggers, ways to approach women with sensitivity, stress reduction and resources will be offered.
Who should attend: Staff from diverse disciplines serving children 0-5 and their families, including: home visitors, public health nurses, fatherhood specialists, family advocates, community health workers, outreach workers, shelter workers, those working with children in foster care or at risk, mental health providers, Head Start and Early Head Start providers, and early care and education providers.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will be able to:
- Identify specific trauma triggers that may impact breastfeeding education for mothers and fathers/partners prenatally, at birth or postpartum
- Apply a Trauma Informed approach to support breastfeeding education prenatally, at birth and postpartum
- Demonstrate 2 - 3 stress reduction techniques that providers can use with clients to reduce breastfeeding anxiety
- Describe 2 - 3 resources and referral agencies that support women who have experienced trauma
