Sexual Harassment and Assault in the Workplace:  The Important Role of Mental Health Providers in Helping Victims Obtain Remedies under Federal Anti-Discrimination Laws

Who Should Attend:

Mental Health providers (psychotherapist, social workers, psychologists and psychiatrists), particularly those who are bilingual (Spanish speaking), and who are interested in providing:

  • Therapy
  • Evaluation and Assessment
  • Expert Testimony

 

in cases involving egregious sexual harassment including physical violence.  The EEOC has obtained tens of millions of dollars for victims of egregious sexual harassment and assault in the workplace, and also for victims of severe harassment based on race, national origin, religion and disability.  These victims have included farm workers, immigrant workers in the service industry, disabled workers in poultry, teenagers in food service or stores and others. 

 

The workshop will include:

 

1)   Overview of EEOC, federal laws against discrimination and

2)   Discussion about compensatory damages – pain/suffering and emotional distress 

3)   Role of therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists play in these egregious sexual harassment cases

4)   Working with victims

5)   Case example:  EEOC v. Willamette Tree Wholesale
