STARTING SOON! Health and Place in America: Digging Beneath the Surface of Complex Communities

How do cultural and economic divides affect health and well-being in different communities? Are racially and ethnically diverse communities also the most segregated? What kinds of communities are most prone to mental health issues?

Join us Thursday, October 4, for a media-only web briefing on a new report from the American Communities Project (ACP) that explains how the places we call home—from middle-income suburbs to college towns to big cities—shape our health. Researchers for ACP’s Health and Place report analyzed thousands of data points from the 2018 County Health Rankings & Roadmaps, a collaboration between the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute, through the prism of 15 community “types,” defined based on dozens of demographic factors. The results are surprising: They show that these very different places can have many of the same challenges. In addition, they highlight shareable solutions that can improve health and well-being across communities.

You’ll also get a demo of new interactive features on the ACP website that allow you to further explore county health and well-being information.
