To better understand the brain and how its innate physiology impacts our day-to-day behavior, this workshop explores bottom-up regulation, the stress response, and how humans have evolved to thrive in reliable interdependent communities. This workshop will guide participants in practicing self- regulation skills, and invite thoughtful reflection around the importance of relationships and community in relation to our own personal health. This session will include large group discussions, break-out rooms, polls, regulation activities, and informational content shares around La Maida Projectβs key concepts.

Meet the Facilitator
Jon Rowe (he/him) has been in the mental health and supportive housing non-profit field for over ten years, working to destigmatize mental health concerns and democratize access to wellness practices and resources. A graduate of UC Irvine, he is interested in building community by holding space for the exchange of ideas and sharing of skills, aiming to find practical solutions to lifeβs many complex challenges.

Current attitudes and solutions around mental health treat emotional states as chronic lifelong illnesses, as opposed to human experiences of disconnection and trauma from which we can recover, heal, and grow. We are bringing awareness, education, and programming to the public about solutions that support healing and promote health in community.
