Website/URL: http://training.womensconsortium.org

Organized By: Women's Consortium

This training explores the current sources of perceived stress for American women and how this can lead to physical and emotional problems. The mind-body connection will be reviewed along with recent advances in the understanding of how protracted stress negatively impacts our emotional and physical well-being. After exploring the problem and its sources, the program shifts into practical adaptive responses that can be learned and practiced. Techniques such as cognitive training, behavioral chain analysis, mindfulness, and a public health preventive approach will be reviewed. Common pitfalls such as drugs and alcohol will also be examined. Throughout this training there will be an emphasis on non-pharmacological strategies to decrease stress, anxiety and depression, although current standards in prescribing will be reviewed. This training incorporates multiple opportunities for attendees to practice the techniques and skills as they are presented. Methods and strategies to create enduring behavioral change and principals of motivation and readiness for change will be discussed.
