Summer Peacebuilding Institute, session 3

Small groups in every society are building a world organized around principles of justice, equity, human dignity, right relationship with our planet, and peace.  The work looks different in each context and we do not always use the same language to describe it. The Summer Peacebuilding Institute (SPI) is here to help you gain the skills necessary to change your community and the world.

The following courses can be taken for professional development or academic credit.  Visit our website (click here) for more information or click the course title below for more information on each course.

Truth-telling, Racial Healing and Restorative Justice: Explore linkages between truth, justice, and healing at personal and collective levels in the wake of violence. Discuss pervasive human rights violations in international and domestic contexts while envisioning what a restorative justice-based truth-telling, racial healing, and reparations process might look like today in the US.

Community Organizing for Social Change: From framing the issue to mobilizing and empowering community actors, learn to design and facilitate social change processes. Explore traditional and transformative approaches used in prior social movements. Explore advances in social networking that positively and negatively influence organizing efforts.

Designing Facilitated Processes that Work: Go beyond basic meeting facilitation skills and design processes that help groups to address challenging situations, deal with differences, and envision a better future. Participants should have some experience with facilitation and want to take their skills to the next level through using context analysis, design principles, and more conducive process methods.

Peacebuilding Approaches to Violent Extremism: Learn practical skills for developing a wide range of potential responses to violent extremism. Explore theories of change that correlate with violent extremism. Discuss and explore counterterrorism, countering violent extremism (CVE), and peacebuilding.
