St. Paul Lutheran Church will host a discussion about Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, featuring an area psychiatrist and a retired Army official.
Dr. Jeffrey Weyeneth, a psychiatric hospitalist with Genesis Medical Center, Davenport, and Command Sergeant Major Stephen Blake, who retired in January from the U.S. Army Sustainment Command, will present. Pastor Dan Kuckuck will also join the discussion.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, is a type of anxiety disorder. It can occur after a person has seen or experienced a traumatic event that involved the threat of injury or death.
PTSD can occur at any age. It can follow a natural disaster such as a flood or fire, or events such as an assault, domestic abuse, prison stay, or war. Veterans returning home from war often experience PTSD.
This presentation will include information about key symptoms of PTSD, how it is diagnosed, and treatment options. It is part of a series of mental health discussions at St. Paul.
