The Trauma Informed Health Care Education and Research (TIHCER) Collaborative presents...
Dr. Jorina Elbers is a Canadian board-certified pediatric neurologist with a master’s degree in epidemiology from Stanford University. She was as an assistant professor of Neurology and attending physician at Stanford for 6-years where she researched the clinical profiles of children with medically-unexplained symptoms and their relationship to adverse childhood experiences. She is trained in EMDR, Brainspotting, and HeartMath. She is currently the Director of the Trauma Recovery Project at the HeartMath Institute, and working with the County of Santa Cruz to implement trauma-informed practices within primary care.
HeartMath is a system of heart-focused techniques and heart-rate variability technology that helps to regulate the nervous system, and brings the body into a state of optimal functioning called “coherence”. Decades of research with over 300 independent studies using HeartMath have demonstrated improvements in mood, anxiety, sleep, and energy levels. In this presentation, we will review the science behind HeartMath and how it can improve the many symptoms of dysregulation that occur following trauma.
