This one-day trauma informed training package has been developed specifically for the mental health sector. It is designed for mental health workers across a diversity of mental health settings. It introduces the concept of trauma-informed care and practice (TICP) i.e. awareness of the possibility of unresolved trauma in those contacting a service and how to minimise the risk of re-traumatisation in services, as well as vicarious traumatisation in workers.
The training establishes why TICP is necessary, what it involves and the changes needed to integrate it into existing ways of operating. It also addresses how foundational trauma-informed principles of safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration and empowerment can be applied. This will involve experiential work with particular reference to individual practice and roles in different services.
