This Course will help provide clinicians, healthcare providers, and others in helping/social services professions with a trauma-informed framework to support patients and clients in making lasting changes to improve their health and well-being. So many healthcare conditions, choices, and decisions are affected by a patient’s total life experience. Research tells us that 70% of adults have experienced at least one traumatic event in their lifetime. The results manifest in social, emotional, mental, and physical health.
Therefore, when designing treatment plans for patients with diabetes we must shift our thinking from a deficits-based mindset of “What’s wrong with you?” to a trauma-informed mindset of “What happened to you?”. Adopting trauma-informed practices for diabetes care can potentially improve patient engagement, treatment adherence, and health outcomes, as well as provider and staff wellness. The benefits of a trauma-informed care approach go beyond just the face-to-face visit, it can also help reduce avoidable care and excess costs for both the health care and social service sectors. This training will provide you with the tools and considerations that will help you support clients by using a well-rounded and multifaceted trauma-informed approach to care.
This course provides 5 CPE from CDR and is offered from 10-5 PM EDT.
