A 2-Part Webinar Series Hosted by The Eden Alternative®
The work we do is intended to help...
How can we be sure we aren’t causing more harm, when we aren’t aware that someone already feels broken, unwanted, or unlovable?
Emotional trauma is widespread and associated with increased vulnerability to chronic illness and depression in Elderhood. Trauma-informed practices in any setting are not only the right thing to do; they are becoming a regulatory expectation. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), for example, requires the provision of culturally competent, person-directed, and trauma-informed care in nursing homes. Emotional trauma is also a factor in employee burnout, contributing to absenteeism, dissatisfaction, and turnover.
This 2-part, interactive webinar series explores how a variety of traumatic experiences may impact Elders and their care partners, and engages the audience in understanding the challenges and rewards of addressing the needs of those affected by trauma in their unique practice settings. Organizations on a culture change journey are especially well-positioned to integrate trauma awareness into policies, procedures, and practices, and to avoid re-traumatization.
Participants will gain practical resources and tools for immediate use to pursue hope, healing, and well-being for Elders and their care partners.
Session One: The Impact of Emotional Trauma in Elderhood
Tuesday, February 26th, 2-3:30 pm ET
Learn a definition of trauma in the context of a strengths-based and person-directed model of care. This session will explore how unresolved and unrecognized trauma may prevent Elders and their care partners from being fully engaged in relationships and the rhythm of daily life.
Session Two: Supporting Growth in Trauma-Responsive Organizations
Tuesday, March 5th, 2-3:30 pm ET
Explore key concepts for introducing trauma awareness and responsiveness in your organization. Participants will begin to build a toolkit of evidence-based resources, including instruments for organizational assessment and screening tools for trauma experienced by both Elders and employees. Participants will work hands-on with a “growth plan”, which will support their efforts to meet the new CMS regulations mandating trauma-informed care.
