This certification workshop, taught by Connection Coalition's Jennifer Cousineau is for anyone who would like to provide outreach yoga programming at schools, shelters, rehab facilities, or through other nonprofit organizations. Working with these populations requires specific skills and awareness so that you can connect with the youth through yoga while providing messages of empowerment, teaching self respect, self awareness and self control.
This 15-hour course will cover:
Diversity
Intro to trauma and how it is held in the body
4 types of students
Showing up and speaking authentically
Appropriate touch
Classroom sequencing, lesson plans, and practice teaching
Privilege and access
The Connection Coalition (aka CoCo) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit which offers programming throughout the country. As of 2018, CoCo has connected with over 17,000 kids and trained more than 3,200 volunteer teachers across the US! CoCo is always seeking emerging leaders in existing and new markets who share the desire to collaborate with youth organizations in order to bring access to yoga, meditation and mindfulness. Certified yoga teachers are welcome as well as yoga lovers who want to connect (yoga teacher certification is NOT required to join our team for volunteer programming)

Training Facilitator: Jennifer Cousineau
Based in Lansing Michigan Jennifer has 10 yearsβ experience working with Homeless and Runaway Youth. She works full time managing a 14 bed shelter in Lansing MI, and also teaches yoga in the area at studios and with other organizations.
Jen pulls from her decade of experience working with at risk teens to lead the CoCo volunteer certification training, facilitating discussions on engagement strategies with youth, the impact of trauma on behavior, and how to structure classes with diverse populations.
