The result of traumatic experience is disconnection and loss. Rebuilding connection is what peer support is all about. This 2-day training will take a look at trauma in the context of peer support. We will explore some of the challenges and opportunities that come up including: What makes peer support unique from clinical support? How do we negotiate peer relationships when dealing with trauma? What if I haven't experienced trauma - how do I relate to someone who has?Participants will be introduced to Shey Mead's Tasks and Principles of Intentional Peer Support as we explore trauma-informed peer relationships. Volunteers will be invited to role-play scenarios based on what we are learning. No one will be asked to divulge personal information about their own trauma experience.
