Understanding Childhood Trauma and Helping Youth Recover

Childhood trauma is common, and a natural response to overwhelming events, yet most people are unaware of what it is and how it shows up in the life of a child. If you are raising a child with big emotions and nothing you do seems to help, this webinar is for you! You will take away practical, evidence-based techniques for helping the children you love to heal the root cause beneath their challenging behaviors - a lack of security in the world around them caused by trauma. Register Here.

According to one study, nearly half of children in the U.S. will be affected by a traumatic event in their childhood. In addition to this, the pandemic has added additional stress and anxiety to families, causing the number of children suffering with mental health issues to skyrocket. Our goal is to close the gap between the number of children suffering with trauma and the number of adults who know how to support them towards healing.
Some topics we will dive into are:
- The effects of ambiguous loss and grief
- Death of a loved one to Covid-19, drug overdose, or substance abuse
- Guidance for rebuilding trust with children impacted by trauma
This presentation is designed for everyone, including prevention/mental health professionals and foster/kinship/adoptive families. After the presentation is completed there will be an open Q&A session for anyone who is interested in learning more.
Learning objectives
- Understand the causes, symptoms, and behaviors of children with exposure to traumatic experiences
- Learn how trauma changes the child's brain and nervous system
- Learn trauma-informed relationship skills that will help you support children/teens through hard times and recover their strength
