Urban trauma is systematic trauma often exacerbated by the pressures of poverty including a lack of social support, financial struggles, unsafe living conditions, violent communities, and more, creating an environment of chronic stress for both children and adults. Individuals that are impacted by urban trauma may not even know it and may become numb to witnessing violence, experiencing physical or sexual abuse, abandonment, or extreme forms of poverty.
