Inspired by her work with Walla Walla’s Community Resilience Initiative, documentary-film director Amy L. Erickson produced and directed Visceral: transforming trauma though theatre, which will premiere June 24-25th as part of the Beyond Paper Tigers conference. Visceral portrays the journeys of four people living with the impact of post-traumatic stress. It features a number of Walla Walla residents, including Etiene Vela, a student at Walla Walla Community College (WWCC), whose life is transformed by performing in WWCC productions with Kevin Loomer, and as a student at Lincoln High School, with Erica “Riki” Wauchek.
Participants at the conference will see Visceral before it is released in July 2020. Erickson, a former Walla Walla resident, is thrilled to premiere Visceral in Walla Walla. “This is where the journey of making this documentary began. There are so many Walla Walla individuals who made it possible for me to make this film.”
Erickson will take part in a virtual chat with conference participants on June 25, 2020 at 5pm along with Loomer, Vela, and Wauchek.
Now in its fifth year, the Beyond Paper Tigers' virtual conference theme is Resilience through Diversity: The power of trauma-informed Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) practices. Tickets are $245 and include two days of live presentations, morning mindfulness sessions, 15 pre-recorded presentations, on demand screenings of the documentaries Paper Tigers, Resilience, and the premiere of Visceral, and live Q&A sessions to follow. Join us to become inspired and help lead the transformation to becoming a more trauma-informed community.
