Webinar: NEW Report Shows Where School-Based Health Centers Can Have the Biggest Impact on Student Health, Mental Health and Learning

The twin pandemics of COVID and racial reckoning have laid bare the evidence of disparities on high needs and low access to health and mental health resources across the state:
  • Visits to pediatrician’s offices fell by 58% for all age groups in March 2020.
  • Rates of suicidal thinking and behavior are up by 25 percent or more from similar periods in 2019.
  • By the end of the 2020/21 school year, students were, on average, five months behind from the previous year.
And for each indicator, the disproportionalities in some communities are glaring.

State Superintendent Tony Thurmond said it best, “Now is the time to invest in what we know works. School-based health centers, especially those that focus on both physical and mental health, are a proven path to better health outcomes for students, and we know that translates into better education outcomes.”
