WEBINAR: State of Crisis: Dismantling Student Homelessness in California

The Center for the Transformation of Schools at UCLA presents State of Crisis: Dismantling Student Homelessness in California, a new report that explores the types of educational and social supports the hundreds of thousands of K-12 students and a growing number of college students experiencing homelessness in California may require to be successful in school and life.

The report reveals that students experiencing homelessness in California are disproportionately Latinx and Black. They are more likely to be suspended or chronically absent, less likely to be UC/CSU ready, and have a lower graduation rate. COVID-19 poses additional challenges for students experiencing homelessness that depend on schools to provide shelter, safety, meals, technology, and before- and after-school services.

In this 1-hour webinar, the CTS research team will present key findings and recommendations from the report. You also will hear perspectives from a variety of stakeholders to gain a better understanding of how this report can inform policies and practices throughout the Golden State to address the growing student homelessness crisis.

This study has been generously supported by the Raikes Foundation, the Stuart Foundation, and the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.
