In Walla Walla County, nearly one in three people report having experienced emotional abuse growing up. Nearly 25 percent report having been sexually abused. Substance abuse, loss of a parent and mental illness and domestic violence are also commonly reported.

Chris Soderquist, an expert with the Centers for Disease Control, will present on the high cost of adverse childhood experiences and how community strategies have the best chance of reducing their effects, according to an announcement.

This is a second, more detailed workshop that is open to service providers, Children’s Resilience Initiative team members and interested community members. Lunch will be provided.

To learn more or RSVP for one of the sessions, contact Teri Barila by Feb. 4 at 386-5855 or at teri.barila@wwcc.edu.
