We are in a full court press to support the bi-partisan RISE From Trauma Act and appreciate your engagement! This week’s national and state sign on letter to Senate leadership featured dozens of organizations from around the country. Now we need many voices from throughout your state to increase the number of Senate co-sponsors.
Please reach out to your two U.S. Senators to co-sponsor the RISE From Trauma Act. There are two key actions:
1. At least one person from your state needs to make a direct, personal contact with the appropriate legislative staffer in your Senators' offices. If you do not already have a staff member contact, please reach out to Jesse Kohler at jesse@traumacampaign.org to get a staffer name and email for the purposes of reaching out and setting up an actual meeting with the staffer. They need to have an in-state point of contact and to hear about your work and how the RISE Act will help support it. At the bottom of this email, there is sample language you can use. Fill in the highlighted fields and, ideally, customize it with a couple of sentences highlighting the trauma-informed work that is going on in your community and state.
· If you live in Alaska, West Virginia or Illinois, you have at least one Senator who is a co-sponsor. For AK and WV, please send the sample email below to Senator Sullivan (AK) and Senator Manchin (WV), as they are not yet co-sponsors. Send a thank you to Senator Murkowski (AK) and Senator Capito (WV) for co-sponsoring this legislation. If you live in Illinois, please send a thank you to both Senators Durbin and Duckworth for co-sponsoring the bill.
2) In addition to this outreach to a staffer in your Senators' offices, we are mobilizing for mass engagement with this easy to use form! Please fill it out and send this to your network and encourage them to fill it out and distribute it to their networks as well! It is quick and easy, and will make a huge difference.
If you have any questions, please reach out and we will be glad to support you. This is a unique opportunity to help launch a new, federal $4.8 billion grant program in support of community coalitions who are advancing trauma-informed and healing centered initiatives. But first, we all have to work to get it through Congress.
We genuinely appreciate your engagement and support for this activity!
Sincerely,
The National Trauma Campaign Core Team
