Few things challenge my attention span more than sleep deprivation or anxiety. Combine both with with parenting babies or toddlers and retaining anything at all is unlikely.
It's why I love videos.
I discovered some short, warm and accessible ones today done by mother and author, Ann Douglas, on the www.havingababy.com website. Her videos are only a minute long and geared towards parents of infants, toddlers and kids in grade school. I would have loved these when my daughter was younger. Douglas talks about everyday topics such as how to become more patient or help kids whine or lie less and sleep through the night more. All here.
It's like listening to a mom or a mentor who simply wants to make daily struggles easier for others facing struggles now that she has already lived through.
She's the author of Parenting Through the Storm: Find Help, Hope, and Strength When Your child Has Psychological Problems and writes about her own experiences as well as those of other parents.
Douglas has four children, all adults now, who had learning and emotional challenges growing up such as depression, ADHD and Asperger's Syndrome. She herself lives with bipolar disorder.
Her articles, all available for free, cover lots of topics such as parenting teens, infertility, postpartum health and parental bereavement, grief, and trauma.
