I can't wait to read this book. The cover is beautiful and tender. This parenting (with ACEs, with PTSD) is sacred, hard and important work. We need all the resources and support we can get.
This book has more than a new cover. While the Trigger Points Anthology had honest essays from those of us parenting after abuse, this one has that plus new chapters and expanded and in-depth resources. There's lots more about ACEs, as well, and s Some of the new chapters are written by our own ACN community members.
See the their mission statement of @Dawn Daum and @Joyelle Brandt below -from their website.
I LOVE how ACEs is in the very first sentence!
Our Mission
- To let parenting survivors know that they are not alone, and that what they are experiencing is a perfectly normal reaction for those who've experienced adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).
- To educate those in the mental health, medical, human services and education fields about common triggers that arise for parents with PTSD, and the challenges they experience while working to break cycles of generational abuse and dysfunctional behaviors.
- To help partners and families better understand the experience of parenting for abuse survivors.
I can't even contain how excited I am.
Parents are entitled to support and ACEs information. Understanding ACEs helps us understand ourselves, our parents, our parenting and each other. It's life-changing stuff.
We parents are sharing this information directly with other parents as well as professionals who have yet to have their own ACE's aha, awareness or education.
We do so using our own voice, style and methods and relying on our expertise. Who knows better than we do what parents with ACEs need as adults when parenting than we do?
We are the ones who can authoritatively share what helps and supports us and what interventions and good intentions have maybe missed the mark, failed, harmed, hurt or even re-traumatized us and our communities. We can share why so many have mistrust of systems and how trauma-informed won't trickle down unless it crosses within sectors and is informed by trauma survivors rather than aimed at us.
We can share stories and experiences with one another but we can also partner with organizations or lead our own initiatives.
You might remember Dawn and Joyelle. They talked about this book and topic on a Parenting with ACE chat a few months ago. You can check out the chat summary of that here or get the whole transcript.

Notes: This book has completely difference content than the past presentations and CEU workshops I've given using the same name.
What our work shares is that it's parent-led, survivor-led, and ACE-informed. We are so glad to each and every warrior, trauma-mama, break-the-cycle parent and ally. We are all about voice, healing and supporting each other and ourselves so we can make personal, family and social change.
We don't compete with one another. We join forces, celebrate successes and cheer each other on! Which is why, I'm happy to share that Parenting with PTSD co-editor, @Dawn Daum will also be the Community Manager of our Becoming a Trauma Informed Organization Community. We'll be sharing more about that great in a few weeks.
