I'm thrilled to offer a workshop at Riverside Trauma Center in Massachusetts in Dec. I'll be speaking as a parent-writer-trauma survivor perspective about ACEs and parenting with post-traumatic stress.
The talk, geared mostly to clinicians and social workers and I'm eager to talk about parenting with ACEs (this group and in general). More about Riverside Trauma Center and the workshop, below.
Riverside Trauma Center. a service of Riverside Community Care, helps people in Massachusetts recover from the overwhelming stress caused by traumatic events by providing community outreach, consultation, and counseling. Traumatic events include natural disasters, serious accidents, suicides, homicides, and terrorism. We also educate communities and organizations about suicide prevention and postvention, psychological trauma, resilience, and the emotional needs of returning veterans.
Training Description:
How do adults abused as children go on to become effective parents? The author speaks from a combination of personal and professional experiences as writer, mother, reporter, parent via adoption and trauma survivor. For most of her adult life she’s been exploring how to live, love and parent well after being raised in hell. She shares data, stories, insights and a surprisingly upbeat and humorous perspective of parenthood and adult life after adverse childhood experiences.
Learning Objectives:
- Explain the ACE Study and how it can be a useful tool in working with parents who have a trauma history
- Discuss the specific and daily challenges those parenting with post-traumatic stress experience
- Identify 3 strategies for supporting parents with PTSD
Continuing Education: Applications for 3 hours of continuing education credits will be submitted for Social Workers, LMHCs, LMFTs, and Nurses. Please contact Jenny Huynh(jhuynh@riversidecc.org) for the status of the CE accreditation. This training is approved for 3 hours of continuing education for Psychologists. RiversideCommunity Care is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor education for Psychologists. Riverside Community Care maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
Registration: Registration is $55 per person or $35 per person for Riverside Community Care employees. Pre-registration is required. Complete the registration online by filling in the appropriate information and paying by credit card or, if you prefer, a hard copy of the registration form is available online to print out and complete.
