In celebration of Native American Heritage Month, the Stephen B. Thacker CDC Library (CDC Library) is partnering with the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control and CDC’s American Indian, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian Coalition to read selections from The Star Collection.
The Friendship Makers aims to respectfully reflect, honor, and celebrate some of the shared values across many American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) communities and allow opportunities for conversation about a child’s specific tribal traditions.
The Stars that Connect Us explains how AI/AN children are connected to one another and protected by tribal communities. This book encourages children to identify people in their life and community they can turn to for support.
This event is open to the public and all ages are welcome to join!
The book’s illustrator and co-writer, Marisa Erven, of the Coquille Tribe of Oregon, will be reading The Friendship Makers and Stars that Connect Us, written for children in grades K-3.
