How One Connection at CYW’s ACEs Conference Sparked Awareness into Action
Origins offers a number of training and consulting services. We developed The Basics as a half-day session to provide the foundation to support trauma-informed and resilience practices across sectors and industries. The Absence of Punishment in Our Schools
Where to begin... My heart is full of hope and joy as I watch the trauma-informed schools movement swell across our nation and planet. The science of ACEs is mind-bending to say the least and we are now able to open up a much deeper dialogue about human behavior and health. Ultimately this work is about healing… All. Of. Us. A new consciousness is taking root around ending the “us vs them” construct. The idea is growing that we’re all on this journey together and that no matter where our...

There are several factors that impact how traumatizing the experience of growing up with addiction might become. Among them are, a child’s access to outside support, their age/developmental level and of course, the natural power imbalance between parent and child. Afterall, where can a child go with their lunchbox,...

It Makes Sense
I felt inadequate and ill-prepared to speak to licensed mental health professionals about ACEs. My background is in health planning, not mental or behavioral health. I review health data and look for gaps and inequities. My time is spent looking for and addressing the health needs of a community. So,...

Re: It Makes Sense
Hi Jennifer, Mary Sharrow and I (Peace4Tarpon) and Dr. Greg Williams (author of "Shattered by the Darkness") were at the ACEs Connection table the first day of the conference and had an experience similar to yours. Mary and I couldn't believe that only one person we spoke with had heard of the ACE study and no one we talked with was familiar with ACEs Connection. We live and breathe ACEs day after day so its easy to assume that just about everyone working in the field of mental health would...
