A new peer-reviewed publication featured in the July 2021 Volume 117 of the Journal of Child Abuse & Neglect confirms the high prevalence of ACEs in New Zealand across all sociodemographic groups, the disproportionate prevalence of ACEs among individuals who identified as Māori, and the relationship between ACEs and IPV in adulthood. This publication, entitled "ACEs in New Zealand and Subsequent Victimization in Adulthood..." by Fanslow et al., supports the need to address ACEs in New Zealand. - "Findings show that ACEs in NZ were prevalent and co-occurring, with one out of two respondents reporting having experienced at least one ACE and one out of nine reporting at least four ACEs before the age of 18" (Fanslow et al., 2021, p. 11).
- "ACEs were widespread across all sociodemographic characteristics, yet some groups experienced a greater burden of such exposures" (Fanslow et al., 2021, p. 11).
- "The high prevalence rates of all ACEs among those who identified as Māori requires urgent attention" (Fanslow et al., 2021, p. 11).
