An estimated 70 percent of youth involved in the justice system have a diagnosable mental health disorder. The Mental Health and Juvenile Justice Collaborative for Change has released a new report which discusses challenges with inadequate resources to address these young peopleβs underlying issues and calls for an expansion of police-based mental health diversion models as well as training for police on responding to youth with mental health issues.
