PACEs in Youth Justice

Discussion of Transition and Reentry issues of out of home (treatment, detention, sheltered, etc.) youth back to their families and communities. Frequently these youth have fallen behind in their schooling, have reduced motivation, and lack skills to navigate requirements to successfully re-enter school programs or even to move ahead with their dreams.

Global Youth Justice Trainings Teen/Student/Youth/Peer Court and Peer Jury (globalyouthjustice.org)

Description:  Global Youth Justice, Inc. champions 1,700+ volunteer-driven youth justice and juvenile justice diversion programs called Teen/Youth/Student/Peer Court and Peer Jury on 4-Continents, making it the most replicated juvenile/youth justice program around the globe.  And, adults and youth from hundreds of additional communities around the globe are in various stages of implementing one of these rapidly expanding affordable youth-led juvenile justice and youth justice diversion programs.

These rapidly expanding local volunteer-driven diversion programs harness positive peer pressure and utilize it in a peer judgment setting to help address the anti-social, delinquent, and criminal behavior of youthful offenders.  The peer judgment, volunteer-driven, youth-led, and positive peer pressure aspects of these diversion programs are the primary programmatic elements that separate these juvenile justice and youth justice diversion programs from all others.  This three (3) day training institute will provide participants with the knowledge and skills to establish, enhance, and expand one of these rapidly expanding local volunteer-driven youth justice and juvenile justice diversion programs.  This training also includes a 1/2 day grant writing and resource session.  Global Youth Justice Trainings are subsidized, which allows for the low $195 registration rate and low $73.45 resort room nightly rate.

Eligibility:  Participants are individuals and teams of 2-5 adults interested in establishing, enhancing, expanding and learning about Teen Court, Youth Court, Peer Court, Student Court and Peer Jury Diversion Programs.  Participants are primarily FT/PT adult staff, partners, and volunteers from courts, law enforcement agencies, nonprofits, district attorney's offices, bar associations, public defenders offices, youth bureaus, public and private schools, civic and fraternal organizations, probation departments, foundations, colleges and universities, community service organizations, youth service agencies, native and aboriginal tribes and councils, community coalitions and more.  Global Youth Justice encourages teams of adults from local communities, especially when at the establishment phase.  Approximately half of the training participants register as individuals, and the other half are adult teams.
