2021 Florida CPP Training Application Open

The FSU Center for Prevention & Early Intervention Policy is excited to continue to build therapeutic capacity to serve young children and their families in Florida by offering training in Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP). It is one of the few evidence-based interventions for children under age five. It uniquely addresses both the parents’ and child’s emotional needs and past traumas with a focus on repairing and strengthening the parent/child relationship.

CPP training is intensive as detailed in the application. Criteria are set from the national office. CPP requires a keen knowledge of early childhood development and good clinical skills. You must have a graduate degree in social work/mental health field and be licensed or licensable. You must attend 18-months of virtual trainings and consultation calls. You must have access to a caseload of young children. You should be familiar with basic concepts in infant mental health and early child development. You must have the support of your agency and supervisor and have access to reflective supervision with special provisions if a sole practitioner. CPP training is a significant investment for the individual, on the agency and for our training team.

CPP is the primary intervention for Florida’s Early Childhood Courts and we hope you’ll consider serving our most vulnerable families in this innovative and expanding statewide program. Our 2021 Florida CPP training will be conducted virtually by Drs. Joy Osofsky & Mindy Kronenberg, with our four statewide apprentice trainers, Dr. Kristie Skoglund, Valerie Dallas, Sharon Ross Donaldson and Heidy Garcia. Trainings will be held over an 18-month period beginning March 24-26 and 29-30, 2021 (9am-1pm) and another four half-days of  virtual training (likely September 2021) followed by another four half-days of training (likely March 2021) with bi-weekly consultation calls throughout the 18 months.  This approach is designed to provide clinical supports and guidance to build expertise over time. At least 35 trainees will be needed to break even for this training.

In addition to our Florida sponsored training, Lili Gray from Chicago will offer a virtual national training beginning in January 26-29, 2021. Costs for either training will be $2500 for the 18-month training. No scholarships are available at this time.
