In an article in the Contemporary PEDS Journal, Dr. Candice Jones addresses ways to help children grieve the death of a caregiver due to COVID-19. Death of a caregiver is an ACE factor that can lead to toxic stress.
She writes that a three-pronged approach is useful when helping children who are grieving a COVID caregiver loss: 1) improve equitable access to COVID vaccines, 2) prepare families and offer support for the children who have suffered the loss, and 3) protect children through engaging them with programs that focus on family resilience and relationship-building.
