Learn What It’s Like To Be ‘In Her Shoes’

Sometimes people learn about individuals in relationships that involve domestic violence and think, “why don’t they just leave?” While we often discuss various reasons for remaining in this type of relationship, such as fear, lack of resources, shame and even love, it is different to experience the challenges individuals face when leaving for yourself.

Join the Peace and Justice Institute, Creating a Resilient Community Network and Harbor House of Central Florida, along with numerous community partners, for a simulation to discover why leaving relationships involving domestic violence is so difficult. The simulation, “In Her Shoes,” allows participants to experience the numerous challenges survivors face when choosing to leave a violent relationship.

The simulation will be followed by discussions about how individuals with various identities experience domestic violence and the different types of challenges they may face. In addition, the event will provide information on how to support friends and family who have experienced domestic violence and will feature a question and answer session with Rachel Louise Snyder, author of “No Visible Bruises: What We Don’t Know About Domestic Violence Can Kill Us.” The event is open to all members of the community, but registration is required as space is limited.
