People are beginning to be aware that one result of the increased stress around COVID-19 is the tragic fact that child abuse and neglect is increasing, but the safety net provided by schools is no longer in place. Teachers and counselors can continue to be a hero to students in this time of crisis, and can help mitigate the negative impact of traumatic events and stress. Caregivers might not be able to do it alone. We (Dr. Rachel Gilgoff, a child abuse pediatrician and trauma expert, and Sarah Rock, a former children's attorney and child abuse prevention specialist) designed this 2 page tool to support teachers, counselors and others who might have contact with students and their families isolated at home during crises. The goal is to help them to utilize their modified role to help children be safe and well amidst crises. The tool is based on science and best practice, includes a Child Well-being Check, and is written from an asset based perspective. It's also free, and we hope you’ll share it with the people you know who might be interested. For more information, contact info, and the pdf see http://www.rockresults.org/tools.html.
