 Part 1: Being Your Own Emergency First Responder: Leaders Managing the Stress of Working in Response to COVID-19

Description: This webinar will provide leaders with useful information to help them manage their own stress response to the uncertain climate created by COVID-19 and identify concrete practical strategies they can use right away to buffer stress and build resilience.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Participants will learn how to tune in and notice their body’s individual reaction to stress.
  2. Participants will learn strategies for creating environments that support adults to buffer their stress response system and promote resilience.
  3. Participants will be introduced to H.O.P.E.--a simple stress reducing, resilience building tool--they can use right away to buffer stress and support healing for staff, children, families and communities.

 

Part II: Help! What Can We Do? Emergency Response Strategies for Early Childhood Educators Supporting Children and Families During COVID-19

 Description: This webinar will provide early childhood educators with concrete practical strategies they can use right away to support young children and families impacted by the stress and effects of social distancing resulting from COVID-19.  The presenters will introduce authentic examples being used in the field to support families to maintain concrete social supports and ensure children’s and families’ basic needs are met. We will also discuss several research-informed tips that adults can use with young children to help them feel safe and support their social and emotional and physical health during these stressful and uncertain times.

 Learning Outcomes:

  1. Participants will learn practical strategies for maintaining concrete social support for families and children while programs are closed, and everyone is requested to practice social distancing.
  2. Participants will learn different approaches that programs, and communities are using to ensure that children’s and families’ basic needs (food, shelter, child care) are being met during this global pandemic.
  3. Participants will learn several strategies adults can use to promote resilience, buffer children’s stress and reduce long term adverse effects resulting from the stress associated with COVID-19.
  4. Participants will receive a comprehensive resource list with websites, weblinks, apps, books and videos they can use to support children and families during this time (some available in multiple languages).
