SESSION 2: ADDICTIONS IN POP CULTURE
Using our STRENGTH AND resilience to move forward with hope and HEALING.
- how does pop culture provide you with an emotional outlet?
- how does pop culture perpetuate the stigma of addictions?
Pop Culture??! Yes, you heard right! Pop culture provides us with an opportunity to relate to or connect with someone, even if it is a character in a show or movie. In this session we will focus on our emotions and potential triggers and how we can move through them. We will also discuss the ways that pop culture depicts parental addiction.
Last week, Samantha Wettje from the 16Strong Project and I, hosted session 1 of 3 of our PEER SUPPORT group for adult children impacted by a parent's substance use. This session focused on understanding ACES and how they relate to our experiences with a parents addiction, and most importantly, understanding how these experiences are impacting our BODIES so we can move forward with healing.
The response blew both of us away, with peers ranging from college students to grandparents who joined us for an impactful hour of community and empowerment.
If you are an adult child of a parent with a substance use issue, or a support worker journeying with a child who has been impacted by substance use, we would love to invite you to to join us for SESSION 2: ADDICTIONS IN POP CULTURE, taking place this week on Wednesday March 24 at 11:30 AM MST/ 1:30 EST.
