ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - A make-shift food bank lives in the office of Abbott Loop Elementary in Anchorage inside of the school’s family services coordinators office.
Abbott Loop Elementary is a Title I school, which means it has high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families. These schools receive financial assistance to help their students meet goals.
Melinda Jarvis, a former student and now parent volunteer, knows what it’s like to struggle financially.
“I was there at one point,” Jarvis said. A single mom and not always having the resources you need or always having the ability to put food on the table.”
