About the Symposium

California is in the midst of a historic drive to further educational equity and promote school success—but will the outcomes match the state’s ambitions? Will the move from test-based accountability to a more complex system measuring school climate, student engagement, and academic achievement make a difference?  Will students end up better prepared for college and careers?

In our 2016 Symposium, “Making it Work: Implementing California’s New Vision for School Success,” EdSource will offer a timely, in-depth look at these reforms. Attendees will leave with need-to-know information about the changes and the extent to which new ways of assessing success can translate into improved education outcomes.

Presenters include

  • California Collaborative for Educational Excellence Executive Director Carl Cohn
  • State Board of Education President Michael Kirst
  • Opportunity Institute Co-Founder Christopher Edley, Jr.
  • Policy Analysis for California Education Executive Director David Plank
  • Learning Policy Institute President Linda Darling-Hammond
  • Legislative Policy Analyst Mac Taylor (invited).
  • Executive Director, CORE Districts Rick Miller
