A series of coaching clinics for service provides, trainers, facilitators and coaches who work with schools to grow our trauma informed school crisis leadership & communication skills.
How might we increase our skills, knowledge, and communication abilities to help our people recover, process information, and navigate uncertainties?
Leading through a crisis requires that we communicate in ways that are clear, transparent and prioritize the health and well-being of the workforce. Trauma-informed communication during, through, and after a crisis acknowledges that how you frame and deliver information will influence how people will experience events and circumstances. Leaders must be highly attentive or they risk inadvertently exacerbating distress in how they communicate.
Under crisis, people have fewer resources and decreased capacity for processing difficult information. Unless we find better ways to communicate about difficult matters and process them adequately, we will constantly stay caught in the cycle of reliving and holding on to old injuries that prevent our healing.
In our highly downloaded guide, “Trauma-Informed COVID-19 Leadership Practices for Recovery & Renewal,” we discuss trauma informed and healing centered leadership competencies (relational leadership, trauma informed communication, mindfulness & reflection, and radical self-inquiry & critical inquiry).
This series of coaching clinics focuses on trauma – informed communication after a big experience (e.g., crises). Throughout four facilitated sessions, SCRR Field Coach Antoine Moore leads you through a combination of content learning, practice, and reflection.
All sessions will be from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm PT / 3:00 – 5:00 pm ET (convert to your time zone)
- Session 1 on October 24, 2022: Staging and Opening (how to have productive conversations that are trauma-informed)
- Session 2 on October 31, 2022: Content and Connection (Building capacity to stay in positive relationship while under stress)
- Session 3 on November 7, 2022: Motivation and Metabolization (Attending to the “meaning” of your communication for others, especially when you sometimes have a bigger reaction than you were expecting)
- Session 4 on November 14, 2022: Repair (How to repair the effects of communication ruptures that can occur in crisis response and get back to positive relationships to recover)
In each session, you’ll be invited to share training, facilitation, and coaching dilemmas and learnings, receive peer coaching from SCRR staff and fellow cohort members, and take time to process how to hold space for yourself and those you serve.
